Photo Mosaique is a small but useful program that allows you to create mosaics by using your own images. The program is very easy to use, you just have to browse your computer and load the desired image. The most common image formats supported are: bmp, gif, ico, jpeg, metafile, pcc, pfi, pfs, psd, png, sgi, targa, tiff, and more.
After the image has been loaded, you can select the resolution for the mosaic (10, 15, 20, or 40 pixels) and you just need to click on the "Create the mosaic" button. The image will be automatically converted into thousand of small images or thumbnails ordered in a way that will look like the source image (the author recommends to use images with few details to obtain a better result). You can save your mosaics in BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, RLE, Targa, or TIFF image formats. Also you can change the image size to print the mosaic - with the 40 pixel option you can obtain a mosaic in a full A4 sheet.
There are some useful features which can be customized: you can use different unit system (centimeters or inches); and you can automatically enlarge small images by activating the "Check size" option.
